Been thinking about the value of prioritizing DEI and welcoming & psychological safety in both professional and personal spaces and how those who argue for homogeneity are choosing strategic ignorance over nature

Ex: I decided to try my hand at gardening, specifically growing from seeds

My first attempt was an abject failure

Why

Because I treated all the seeds the same even though I had a pretty diverse mix

My second attempt is yielding success because instead of throwing them in dirt and watering, I decided to check out some YouTube videos where I learned that the main 2 plants I really wanted ONLY germinate in light and at soil temps above 70

You know what I didn’t do after watching those videos? Doubt or challenge what I “learned” because “that’s not how I do it” or I didn’t believe that these seeds a different approach to grow…no…I changed my approach, which included upgrading their environment to meet their needs and…problem solved

LESSON: diversity is ESSENTIAL for the health of ANY ecosystem, including humans and don’t let the mediocre and unremarkable convince you otherwise
