I know that there is a lot going on in all directions right now demanding you attention, but please pay attention to and speak up about the human rights catastrophe unfolding in Iran. The world can't yet again be silent. 🇮🇷

Trans Rights are Human Rights.

Please remember to be kind to our trans friends and family.

They're enduring so much these days; they need our help.

When someone says "Turn of the century" which do you think of first?

It's not just you. US healthcare, already a bureaucratic nightmare of buck-passing and price-gouging, has gotten *far* worse. Private equity firms have created regional health-care monopolies that don't just rip patients off - they're *killing* us.

Private equity is a scam. Fund managers raise gigantic sums by claiming to be able to "beat the market." In reality, they do worse for their investors than a boring old index fund:

I think it's glorious that there's now a Mastodon server operated by people who used to work for Twitter (macaw.social). I could have never imagined it when I started in 2016.

Just a quick poll. #Boost ok.

Have you been infected with Covid-19?

friend taught me about something recently, known as Gell-Mann Amnesia

quoting this page:
https://www.epsilontheory.com/gell-mann-amnesia/

---

Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the “wet streets cause rain” stories. Paper’s full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.

i've been thinking about this very strongly with every news article that comes out about "The Mastodon Network" or whatever, and with the whole journa.host thing.

i don't normally consume a lot of news, tech or otherwise, and i hadn't identified this pattern in my own thinking. but i sure as hell do now, especially with all these clueless writers churning out paragraph after paragraph, full of nonsense, about a subject that hits pretty close to home for me

There should be a #synesthesia equivalent to the concept of onomatopoeia.

(I say this as someone with synesthesia. If anyone knows a word for this please tell me.)

if I was still using Twitter, I'd reply to every Elon post with "you all are ignoring the pioneering work in micro services at the MIT Media lab done years ago by Frumunda's group"

and when Elon replies asking for a pointer to the paper where the findings were discussed, I'd say FRUMUNDA MY BALLS, YA DICKHEAD

I finally beat my addiction to chocolate ice cream with marshmallows and nuts > it was difficult. In fact you might say it was a rocky road.

What's your bird situation? :twitter:

Hello to fediverse friends new and old! For those who haven't met us yet, we'd like to introduce ourselves. For those who have been long-term fanny-fans, we're gonna reintroduce ourselves and maybe you'll learn something new.

First things first: YES there's a Vagina Museum, a bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and the gynaecological anatomy. And we're it.
