I posted recently about recording Tuareg music in the Tassili: this is what we went for: the prehistoric paintings found on sandstone rock faces. This image (my slide of 1969) is from the Round Head period thought to date from 6,000 to 4,000 B.C. We need to stop taking anyone seriously, that tell us to "tolerate" people who want to take away other people's civil rights. That's not what tolerance is.

So, one person who "just can't do math" turns out to be slow and inaccurate with arithmetic, a different person has trouble reading sentences and constructing the intended problem model from them. Another mixes up the huge quantity of precise and picky vocabulary. Yet another stumbles over algebraic rules of manipulation. One more struggles to sketch objects in 3D. Another has trouble synthesizing a set of givens into proof.

Happily nearly all of these things can be improved with practice.
