Amazon and Space X are fighting in court to have the National Labor Relations Board declared unconstitutional.

This means the two richest men on earth want to dismantle the agency that holds them accountable for union busting.

Nothing terrifies them more than worker power.

Hey y'all! I have some news- idk if you have seen any discussions recently about issues with the Black Mastodon groups we have, but one of them is being shut down and the other one has been targeted repeatedly by spammers and white supremacists, since due to its design it is not really able to be moderated.

Thanks to a helpful suggestion, though, I was able to request a new group bot that has actual safety features- and they approved it!

You can find it at @blackfedi.

A couple of disclaimers: unlike the gup.pe bots, this one will only boost mentions from people actually following the account. Furthermore, the follows have to be manually approved. This will hopefully allow for Black folks to be using it more safely than the unregulated bots already in existence.

Hopefully we can strike a balance between ease of use and protection. We'll see!

Also, if you want to mention the account without it boosting your post, simply put ! at the beginning. For example: !@blackfedi

So, Smurfs are mammals, right? Papa Smurf has a beard. So, why are there so few females? Doesn't this imply an egg laying species? Maybe they aren't even vertebrates.

😢#RIP “Louis Gossett Jr., the first Black man to win a supporting actor Oscar and an Emmy winner for his role in the seminal TV miniseries “Roots,” has died. He was 87.

Gossett’s nephew told The Associated Press that the actor died Thursday night in Santa Monica, California. No cause of death was revealed.”

Ebenezer Scrooge paid his employees double the current minimum wage.

I found an antiquarian book-store near my destination. I was a little early, so I thought I'd check it out. They had a lot of really cool old books, and I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. I started to chat with the owner, and he turned out to be a Far-right loon. I don't care how much cool stuff he has, I will never spend a penny there.

Q: Why is Donald Trump suddenly selling $60 bibles?

A: It enables churches to funnel money to him without violating the (US law) ban on political campaigning by churches—it's a form of money laundering, in other words.

Dear @Gargron,

A fediverse server called Threads* is violating mastodon.social’s second server rule:

“2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia…
Transphobic behavior such as intentional misgendering and deadnaming is strictly prohibited.”

glaad.org/smsi/report-meta-fai

Can you please defederate from this server to protect the trans people on mastodon.social?

Thank you.

US Politics in a nutshell:

The US forked British Monarchy™ in 1776, but froze the dev branch with Constitution 1.0, so didn't bother to backport any of the subsequent bugfixes and security patches (1831, 1918, 1938, etc.) from the main British branch.

Anyway, you've got a bunch of British Monarchy™ users who instinctively want to tug the forelock but don't have anyone to tug it *at* and it upsets them because homebrew is no good—it takes 700 years of inbreeding to roll your own nobility.

Like, do the math right? These folks have repeatedly indicated that they're going to comply with fascist laws. They're already fucking with anything that looks like adult contact; what happens when the US passes KOSA and just being LGBTQ is adult content? They've already provided DMs for convictions to anti-abortion states. So when the nazis win, and just being trans and antifascist and an anarchist is all illegal; where does that leave me? Exposed to a degree that genuinely puts me in danger.

People rightfully scoff at America being described as the richest country in the world when it's really a poor country with a shocking number of millionaires and billionaires who got rich by exploiting everyone else and the loopholes built into the system for them.

But it's also a fairly liberal country crushed under the weight of a white wealthy ruling class, who not surprisingly are mostly those same millionaires and billionaires or their hatchet men.

@caseynewton It's important to understand that "age verification" schemes being passed by states, ostensibly to "protect the children", won't do that and will bring about incredible abuses.

In order to age verify children, obviously EVERYBODY of any age must be verified, for every account, under every name or pseudonym, ultimately on every site no matter how public or private the topic, and before downloading any apps.

Children will find ways to work around this. They'll use the accounts of adults, which will be openly traded. But because these age verification systems must by definition be based on government IDs, the verification process creates a linkage between your account names and your actual identity, subjecting you to all manner of leaked personal information, government abuses (think MAGA in charge), and worse. Firms will claim their systems either don't keep this data or can't be abused. History strongly suggests otherwise, and when courts step in, those firms will have to do what the courts say, often in secret, when it comes to collecting data.

Age verification is in actuality a massive Chinese-style Internet identity tracking project -- nothing less -- and there are many politicians in the U.S. who look with envy at how China controls their Internet and keeps their Internet users under police state controls.

#Google announced that starting in June 2024, ad blockers such as uBlock Origin #uBO will be disabled in Chrome 127 and later with the rollout of Manifest V3 (#Mv3).

#ManifestV3 is deceitful and threatening to your privacy, and now is a good time to switch to #Firefox (@Mozilla@mamot.fr) (@mozilla@mozilla.social ) and/or #TorBrowser if you haven't done so already!

To all the people who wrote "stay cool" in my middle school yearbook, I have some bad news.

I haven't watched TV since 2002. Quitting TV is kind of like quitting smoking: once you are used to not having it, you don't even want to go near it. Stop watching Cable Television. At this point, it's your patriotic duty.

Some 2 billion tyres are made a year. 78% of microplastics in the ocean come from tyres. Car tyres are made from around 24% synthetic rubber. This “chemical cocktail” of 400 chemicals includes heavy metals like copper, lead and zinc. A reduction of tyre wear particles is as important as reducing exhaust emissions.
