@luckytran Fun fact since it's not clear to everyone, but if your nose is out of the mask, you're not wearing a mask.

@nazokiyoubinbou @luckytran Additional fun fact, if air goes around your N95 respirator your not wearing an N95 respirator. Remember "When worn right its uncomfortably tight."

@antares @luckytran Indeed. I have had tons of troubles with good fit on masks. Everyone really needs to be shown how to properly fit a mask, get the right size, etc.

Instead we have a culture of "eh, just let it hang loose with your nose out" or even "masks are evil, just kill everyone around you instead." God what a mess.

@nazokiyoubinbou I think it is also important to understand that there are some people, myself included, who cannot wear a respirator appropriately and safely.

Just last week I "failed breathing" again at work. It is illegal for me to work in any environment where a respirator is required. Fortunately, there is very little call for such work in my particular role so my employer can make a reasonable accommodation for me.

When I hear people wanting to make N95s mandatory PPE in more situations - especially public accommodations I worry that it will impact my employment. For example, if N95s are required PPE in healthcare settings, I would become illegal for me to do any work in a healthcare setting because I am cannot get a licensed to wear a respirator even if the task I am performing would not need one otherwise. I work in a heavily regulated industry were we can lose billions of dollars in federally overseen contracts for not strictly observing PPE regulations. "Lets require everyone to wear an N95" is a real threat to my employment.

@luckytran

@antares @luckytran To be clear, if N95s *were* mandatory, there would be actual medical exceptions. Heck, there already were during the short time we almost accept the pandemic as real. Of course people took advantage and made up exceptions, but I'd rather a world where a handful make up exceptions than a world where no one wears one. Remember, if others wear one it protects you too. But yes, I do agree that it should be allowed that there be *SOME* exceptions.

@antares @luckytran BTW, to be clear, at this point things are so degraded we aren't actually even discussing masks being required. At this point what we're actually discussing here is just that masks should be allowed for those who wish to wear them. Because that's the point we are in things now. Since COVID-19 was too inconvenient and masks mess with messaging and trying to ignore reality, places are starting to actually ban people from wearing them at all. Even when they need them.
