Do it again😃.

My name is Ian, I'm Head of Data Science at Credo AI, an #ai governance company. I have a background in cognitive neuroscience where I focused on cumulative, #openscience.
I'm focused on de-risking AI and connecting it to human flourishing. I'm hopeful that governance and new tools can help, but only as part of a vast ecosystem of different approaches needed to usher in the future we all hope for.
I'm excited for exploring what Mastadon has to offer and connecting with you all!
I lead personalization at Literati, a startup in the children's books space. I pretty much only use Twitter to follow your discussions about ML and ethics and to occasionally tweet about track or #Tolkien. Hence, following y'all to Mastodon seems only natural! I hope to participate more actively over here.
My family and I live in LA, where my wife works as a screenwriter. Someday, I'd like to get healthy and run a marathon again and to have a second career as a philosopher.
I feel like @shanselman is the MVP of Mastodon right now.
Thanks for boosting so many users and all types of posts. It's totally changed it from feeling empty and "What do I do now?" to something vibrant and busy.
Will the #TigrayGenocide finally cease? A (currently secret) peace agreement has apparently been made between the Ethiopian federation and Tigray [1]. The joint statement [2] suggests that it's serious. #AmnestyInternational worries that the concrete details of implementing #TransitionalJustice for the crimes against humanity/genocide are missing.

Thoughts on Mastodon/Twitter
One of the things I'm trying to figure out here is what a bunch of other people discussed. One of the most important things I gained from twitter is learning from people/groups I don't necessarily interact with and raising awareness about issues. E.g. following the @RefugeesinLibya group to amplify their voices, doctors in Tigray giving us first hand accounts of #TigrayGenocide etc. How do we foster that type of functionality here?
Yann LeCun keeps on repeating that Facebook has figured out content moderation and that multi-lingual large language models have made everything better. It wasn't figured out during the Rohingya genocide but its all good now. And I just can't control my anger seeing our communities decimated and what is happening on Facebook and how they don't do anything. And here is their chief scientist with the audacity to repeat this over and over again while we're seeing #TigrayGenocide.
My students often struggle with selection bias and measurement error bias in linear regression models. So I have made a couple of Shiny apps to help visualize these concepts.
Selection bias: https://apps.biostat.au.dk/stefan/selection/
Measurement error: https://apps.biostat.au.dk/stefan/measurementerror/
Feel free to use them in your teaching #rstats #datascience #stats
Code is available at my GitHub.

Journalists: here's how to get your Mastodon profile verified. (Please boost this, people!) 🧵 https://pdx.social/@wood/109289447304491362

So which of the multitude of exciting scholars and/or journos #OnHere is working on the story of the mechanics of how #Mastodon became *the* place we all flocked to? I’m thinking there’s a story about turning points, eliminated alternatives at crucial moments, and when path dependence kicked in (all complete with data) that occurred just as the sale of the bird app was announced that led us all here. I’d read it.

Someone projected this on Twitter HQ tonight. https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/yp9l0w/elon_seems_to_have_no_concept_of_free_speech_so/ #technology #tech #twitter #elonmusk #twittermigration #twitterrefugee #elon
Ok folks who are some of your favorite people who have been on here for a while tooting about technology and online culture? Looking for smart people to follow and would love recs!

I see a lot of people talking about how Mastodon "Feels like the Internet I remember from 20 years ago."
That's no accident. That's Federation. That's UseNet, IRC, Email, Message Boards, etc. What do they all have in common?
Federation: Users congregating around watering holes of common interest, but still being a part of a larger whole.
THIS IS HOW THE INTERNET WAS DESIGNED TO BE. And I am HERE for it.
I keep seeing people say Mastodon is nothing like Twitter. And they’re right.
Mastodon is an echo of the old internet, it’s decentralised, chaotic. What you get depends on your sysadmin. You can’t search, everything has to be shared to you by a human. Networks split apart and rejoin. What you see is your unique connection to it.
Is this good? Maybe. But for me that’s the internet I grew up with. No algorithms, no targeted adverts, just human interaction, and it was glorious.
Newly arrived! I am interested in data science, programming (especially R and Python), indie rock, experimental music, piano, mathematics, physics, and surrealism. #intro #newtooter
