I'd love to see an #ActivityPub UI that follows the original model of social network apps like Orkut and Friendster; all "friend" connections are 2-way (no following without being followed and vice-versa), and when a friend request is accepted you can see their friend list (by default, subject to the privacy settings of each user). This would be for more of a 'friends & family' use case, rather than a 'community of interest' or 'federated publishing and promotion' use case.

@strypey You may want to look into friendica, which uses this model and also federates with mastodon/pleroma and diaspora*. Has been around for a while and has some nice features, but is not well known for some reason

@arteteco I have done a bit of testing on Friendica. Are you sure it's 2-way connections? It might seem like a minor detail, but it makes a massive difference to the social psychology of the way a social app is used. To my mind it defines the difference between a 'social network' app (FB or LinkedIn) and a 'social media' app (birdsite or YT)

@strypey Yes, it may need some plugin, but does work. Check out @imvectech@libranet.de for example: they are hosted on a friendica website, and it works pretty well
