The idea of a biologically "default" human, from which all disabled people/genetically rare people/etc "diverge", is a shockingly common one given how utterly absurd and indefensible it is

Never heard about this. I guess there is something considered a 'normal' human, the one you consider as baseline, there are then exceptions in one matter or the other which make individuals. Makes sense to me for a rare genetic conditions to be considered not normal because well, it's rare. 'Divergence' is a term I've nevered encountered in this context, does that just mean 'not normal' or there is something more to it?
