Baby, are you an ultraviolet photon? Because you put me into an excited state! ☀️

Is there such thing as an ultraviolet photon?

@philipp
I don't think I've ever understood quantum mechanics, I still visualize photons as particles and wavelength as something else. Are they to be considered the same thing and the words usable interchangeably?

More or less. Though this isn't quantum mechanics. This is just part of the wave approximation.

Energy is related to wavelength;
E = hν,
so higher energy equates to shorter wavelength. The two aren't *exactly* interchangeable, but they're essentially the same concept.

So, for example, ultraviolet has higher energy/higher frequency (shorter wavelength) than infrared. This is true irrespective of whether you treat photons as waves or particles.

Heh. Had to delete and redraft. Getting λ and ν mixed up is just embarrassing.
