When did it become a thing to use 3-letter abbreviations to refer to people? Apparently ESR and RMS are people, but my brain will never read those as anything other than electron spin resonance and root mean square.

@ElectricAsherah
I genuinely have no clue who either of these people are, and I’m not sure if I should.

@InvaderXan Definitely better not to know, in the case of RMS. Not HARMFUL to know, not a monstrous person afaik, but also just someone you will live perfectly comfortably not knowing about. Maybe even more comfortably.

@ElectricAsherah @InvaderXan ESR, on the other hand, is a terrible person and you're actively better off not knowing he exists

@arteteco Eric S. Raymond, most probably. (or, you know, Electronic Spin Resonance.) @anna @ElectricAsherah @InvaderXan

@daniel_bohrer @arteteco@qoto.org @anna @InvaderXan why.... did you tag in people who posted explicitly that they were happy not to know?

@ElectricAsherah
When you answer people get tagged automatically, I think (but am not sure) that if I remove tags the message fails to get in the meant position in the thread.
@daniel_bohrer @anna @InvaderXan

@arteteco no, you can even remove all mentioned users, even the first one, and the threading stays intact :) Only no one will be notified then.
