Out with the kids on a 5km forest walk and stopped of to make a little lunch (all this camping tech has come a long way 😂). While walking I thought how vibrant everything seems when you get to walk about in nature.
It's very easy to get hooked on our devices and see everything through an OLED screen. Think how much better things were when everything was not trying to grab our attention and sell us stuff.
Has anyone tried a device curfew? If so how did you find it?
@mfitzp I do the same, but make the mistake of having the phone within arm's length.
I might just leave it in a different room, or in the hallway like the old wall phones were used to have, perhaps with a nice 3d printed bracket.
Unfortunately I have grown to be accustomed to having it on my person virtually 24/7 but for no good reason. Perhaps I need to go cold turkey for a week! 😂
@backofficeshow yeah, it's hard habit to crack. Put it in a case with one of those curly cables connected to the wall 😀
Often will leave it at home if I go out, but not really an option if you need to be reachable. It's weird remembering how we managed before.
@mfitzp alas unlike phones of yore if you hit it hard enough you can't get the bell inside to ring! 😂
It feels so naked leaving the house without one. I'm hoping I've day to get decent LTE with my mobile provider so I can use some of the smart wearables with it, just to have that emergency option. It would not really be a hardship, I rarely use my phone when walking or running for anything other than music.
@backofficeshow "feature phones" (pared back phones with only basic apps) are something I've looked at too. But I couldnt find a good option for if you also want a decent camera, or need maps/GPS.
@backofficeshow I use bedtime mode (Android) to turn the screen grayscale. It's designed to reduce blue light before bed, but you can turn it on whenever you want.
Makes everything less engaging/interesting & easier to put down.
