something worth noting: alupoly caps are frickin' incredible for power stuff due to their low ESR and high ripple current ratings, but if you ever do hot air rework near them you're probably going to degrade their performance significantly. they tend to get deeply unhappy if you push them much harder than a single pass through a reflow oven.

this is well known in the GPU modding and console repair scene, but not something I've heard a lot of EEs talk about.

I'm not actually sure what the reason is... I should find out. My guess is it's either related to the lower thermal capacity of the electrolyte, or it's a lattice Curie temperature thing. I don't know much about alupoly chemistry though.

@gsuberland Polymers do not have an electrolyte. The polymer replaced it.

PEDOT is typically used. It oxidizes at high temperatures (which increases its ESR.)

While PEDOT caps have a wear-out mechanism, they differ from traditional wet electrolyte-based caps.
