One of the biggest goldmines as a mapper is if a location has a brochure. As long as the license permits it, one could just use their map (if in existent) to add onto . Though other attributes are also valuable that comes with, like the contact information. This saves the time at location to fill in all this data.

Brochures from malls are quite practical when indoor mapping. Though usually such malls also have a website. At that point it is questionable which one is more favorable.

@barefootstache Would you happen to have examples of brochures where the license permits it ? I'm by no means an expert, but the few brochures I checked for copyleft license were "All rights reserved" in France.

@gileri licensing is a tricky one.

The way I go about it as the following: is the data contact relative and publicly (either physically printed at the location or on their website) available, then I directly use it.

For maps of malls, although maybe not 100% licensing correct, IMO there is no difference between physically walking to each store and adding its location and using an aid like the map, except to confirm that the shop is truly there where it is said to be. Though I would refrain using it as a stencil to draw the indoor walls until I get confirmation to use it freely.

The correct way to do it is to contact the provider and ask if you can use their data. In the wiki there are a couple of email templates that you could use. Additionally, I met other contributors that specialize in the area of making specific datasets permissive for OSM usage. Maybe your local chapter might have someone like that.
