Is there a way to search the ENTIRE mastodon?

(Because it seems that running the same search at different instances give different results.)

@beatricebernardo You can search the Fediverse with hashtags. If you want your posts to be discovered, using some hashtags is a good idea. :)

Different instances do give different results because one may block a few other instances, and the other might not.

By default Qoto doesn't block servers, though some might block us. As result we're one of the most connected servers around.

@trinsec Thanks!

Is there a way to check what instances are connected to qoto (which are not?)

@beatricebernardo

There is a site displaying various connections, but it might be a bit hard to read. I also do not know how complete this might be.

Try checking out fediverse.space

@trinsec Sorry for the newbie question. But what does it mean for instances to be connected. And this has 66k chars limit?

@beatricebernardo
Check the About page here for more information about the extra features that Qoto has to offer: qoto.org/about/more
This does include the 65k character limit.

The Fediverse consists of many servers (including Mastodon servers) which are connected to each other by talking a certain protocol (language) with each other. That way we get to send each other messages (just like email, basically, also all various servers like gmail, outlook, etc).

So, our server (Qoto) has a lot of connections with a lot of servers. A server with a huge blocklist might not have many connections at all, and thus sees less messages from other servers out there.
