@trinsec I just realized that I tooted but I can't see the toot. Now where did that go?

@bewildered You'll alway be able to see your own toots and replies in your home timeline.

Public toots you've made (not replies) will end up in public timelines like local and federated.

@bewildered Also, you seem to be addressing me straightly instead of using the reply button there. That means you make an original first toot every time that's visible in the public timelines. Maybe not quite the intended effect if you wanted to reply to me.

@trinsec Yeah, I just figured that out. I used 'mention' instead of spotting the really obvious 'reply' arrow. Though not sure of the difference, really. And I just clicked on 'Federated' and there's stuff appearing just way too fast to keep up with. Can one slow it or filter it?

@bewildered Yes. I can recommend you checking out your settings (click on edit profile to get there) carefully. There's a lot of options available. :)

In this case you would want to enable the 'slow mode'. And you might want to make use of the language filters.

@bewildered And the difference is that a reply gives you threaded responses which makes more sense if you want to follow the conversation. ;)
