So the #tories will bring back a form of #nationalservice if they win.
I can’t work out if this is final proof that they don’t want to win the #ge2024 and are alienating a large portion of society. Or, that they think this will be a vote winner with an entirely different portion of society!
@Steveb They may think it will help to sure up their base (over 65s).
@bibliolater you gotta imagine that’s the idea. It boggles the mind how they keep concluding stuff like this will have a net gain.
@Steveb The calculus might be that the older generation is more likely to attend polling booths and cast their votes than the under thirties. So in a way it would be a net gain if they can persuade the over sixty fives with policies such as national service for those who are eighteen years old. I am sure the matter would be different if national service was being advocated for the over sixty fives.
@bibliolater I’d have thought a lot of 40-somethings will vote against it, as it’ll be their kids doing it. Plus plenty of young people, who otherwise wouldn’t vote, will vote, against it.
Surely the result will be a net loss?
