In the 1800's mercury salts used to make hats brim brisk sometimes drove hatters insane.
In the mid 90's when leaded gas was banned, violent crimes dropped quickly. Areas that banned leaded gas the fastest exp. the fastest drops in violence.
This is why dumping coal ash containing mercury and lead in rivers and streams is a bad idea.
