why is it that anytime i mention I'm in biotech all the fuckin software engineers and compsci people suddenly think I'm part of their in-group or that career advancement works the same way. lol, no I'm not, and no it doesn't.

if a job description says "Operation of bioreactors, DOE in JMP, hi-throughput metabolite assays" and you can't do those things.... then you don't get the job. and it will be IMMEDIATELY obvious if you lie and try to learn on the fly. lol.

also we actually have women

remembering the time i was in a bad date with some gatekeeper silicon valley tech transplant and the conversation was like

Him: So, you're in biotech? Do you know, uh... PCR?
Me: Yeah I do it every day.
Him: Oh yeah, so how do you make *more* of it?
Me: What? More what? More copies of the fragment you're amplifying?
Him: sure.
Me: I mean, you can run more cycles.
Him: Uh-huh. But how would you do that?
Me: Have you never used a program on a thermocycler?
Him: ...No. I was just testing you.
