Inspired by the wonderful manuscript and code by @miltondp and @greenescientist, I have coded a utility:

which I am finding very useful for copyediting my writing.
You can use it independent of manubot. It's low level. Give it files and it write files. You can fine-tune effectively every setting that is sent to the OpenAI GPT API.
Prompt settings make a HUGE DIFF to what GPT will do for you. Just like a human-for-hire, quality of results depends on your guidance.
