Taking to a New Zealand school teacher today.

I learned that schools in poor areas provide snacks in every classroom.

If a kid is hungry, they can walk over to the refrigerator and get something to eat.

Where I went to high school, it's a low to mid socioeconomic zone so it has:
Free breakfast,
Free lunch,
In class snacks.
Take away snacks.

If a kid will be hungry after school, they can take food home.

That is how bad the economy has got in some areas. Food is cheap in the big scheme.

The teacher said that their school has a dining hall.

It has had breakfast and lunch for years, I think breakfast was the first thing, then expanded to lunch a few years ago.

The snacks in class stared in 2021.

I think she said that the teachers can eat in the dining hall too.

She said the food was pretty good, there are fresh vegetables and fruit, and main meals, like pasta or whatever. Yoghurt, cheese etc. Real food, not processed stuff.

Schools in rich areas don't have any of this.

that's the important part imho. free food is great but it has to be real food.
