PSA: i'm not sure if it is a good idea to share your wifi names here, especially if they are unique enough. one probably can look them up with geolocation services of google etc.

even if big G does the lookup via hardware id rather than ssid ;)

@bonifartius change your said from MyFancyWiFI to MyFancyWiFI_nomap. The "_nomap" suffix excludes it from Google's geolocation database. Simple as that :)

@bonifartius well, yeah, I'm sure, but it won't be searchable for people without elevated privileges

@bonifartius and if you want to go full tinfoil hat on it, there's a way for that too. You get a router you can flash OpenWrt on, you type in a little bash script that will periodically change your WiFi's BSSID to a random value, you include it in crontab and there you have it. Devices you use don't give a shit about the mac address. That's why roaming works ;)

@ThatCrazyDude that is probably a good idea. together with a vendor default ssid. regarding _nomap see attached screenshot :P

@bonifartius ha!
But seriously. OpenWrt is effin' awesome. I was running a public web server on a router alone back in a day thanks to it 🤣

@bonifartius i was always going with TP-Link for those kinds of fuckery. They were always compatible, even though you'd often need to compile the trunk branch, and they were cheap. Dunno nowadays though. Switched to Mikrotik 🤣

@ThatCrazyDude i think the freifunk.net people here in germany still use OpenWRT for their stuff. maybe i should give it a shot :)

then, the cheap router i use only as access point also works for now :D
