most germans are literally this meme, void of any critical thinking.

@bonifartius everyone is like that and it's not even that bad, you should American people or spaniards, those are closer to you

@Elfie idk, at least in the us there seems to be a sizable number of people who are not avid bootlickers. i don't even expect that one puts something on the line - as it's usually not worth it given the opponents - just showing some healthy criticism of the government and mass media.

never had much talk with people from spain so i can't comment on that.

protests like right now in the netherlands or those you regularly see in france won't happen here. the only time so many people gather to "protest" anything here in germany is if it's the government approved anyway - it's plain virtue signalling.

@bonifartius I know some people from Germany and they're far from that. they're sane and thoughtful.
I think, in every country the vast majority is confomist and don't think too much. but there're normal people too, that think, create, strive for more and better.

@iron_bug of course, but there is a certain "obey the rules" part in german psyche which is really frightening. you wont see protests like in france or now in the netherlands. you likely won't even hear a word of disapproval of bullshit rules. i think it's the combination of a usually well functioning country and the german angst..

@bonifartius 10 days ago I went to Embedded World in Nürnberg by train from Sweden.

1. When passing the border from Denmark to German, an announcement of "must have a mask on", and I was like "What happened? Same people, same confined space, won't stop for another hour...?"

2. As soon as I entered a train, bus, S-bahn, U-bahn in Germany, the enforcement of the "mask mandate" was done by ordinary Germans. Not once didn't the nearest German forcefully (stern voice) demanded that I put on a mask.

@niclas exactly this shit. all it would take is to look to our neighbours, look up the statistics for them and see that it's bullshit. to police others on top of that is really typical german. i'm very happy that we have rules here, but this policing of others without even questioning the rules is really fucked.
maybe it's the ole german angst 🤷‍♀️
