mfw why don't you use the room quinn
 lighting is dingy and i dunno how to fix. like i literally don't know enough about lighting.

like do all i need to do is put rope lights up, or do i need a good bright lamp with a lampshade, or do i need accent lights...

there is just an overhead and a desk lamp and they're extremely depressing.

inb4 someone is like "my great aunt died of cancer with just a couple small bic lighters be glad you have dingy lighting"

@icedquinn@blob.cat but yeah string lights often help a lot. ikea utsund are good

i recommend these because they’re WAY better than the generic chinatrash. chain of 24 takes 1.3 watts and should last a very long time because they’re not driving those LEDs to their absolute limit

@icedquinn@blob.cat if you want to get creative you can also put some woven balls on them. did that for our bedroom

(the strip behind the headboard reacts to music when it’s on but that’s entirely optional)

@mia we have some chinatrash rope lighting. i was just being hassled about it again a few minutes ago :blobcatpensive2: i like the rope light where the leds are inside the actual plastic tubing though. feels a lot less junky than a bare circuit strip slapped up there.
@mia i found something that is just a light pole https://www.amazon.com/YIKBIK-Changing-Bluetooth-Standing-GameRoom/dp/B0C2BZ599L :blobcatgoogly:

thought about getting one of those lights that is meant to treat SADS and hiding it behind a monitor or something for a sun glow. also found one of those monitor illuminators that sticks to a desk that might be worth looking in to (lifter desk, so it doesn't get along well with the standing lamp in there.)

some combination of rope & desk mounted light & some standing unit might do it idk.
