You can see that matrix was made by mossad glowies by how it stores the entire chat history in the database (along with gigabytes of other stuff)
In contrast to xmpp that deletes most stuff after 2 weeks so it runs on your $5 vps without problems

@newt @iska
I always wonder why Mossad, AFAIR they are a British company, should at least be MI6 🤭

@m0xee @iska though I'm kinda curious about the original message from Iska. I checked out my Dendrite database and after two years of active use it's under 800 megabytes, including the indices. No idea what's in it tho.

@newt @iska @thatbrickster @m0xee maybe was about the poast matrix db vacuum adventure?

matrix is good to replace messengers and shit to replace irc. the state syncing model of matrix just doesn't scale, but is nice for use as messenger.

xmpp is a bunch of incompatible implementations of XEPs.

@bonifartius @iska @thatbrickster @m0xee figures..

Yeah, the original idea of a chat as a distributed database just doesn't work. It takes my server sometimes up to several hours to join a big room with thousands of participants.

@newt @iska @thatbrickster @m0xee back in the days i had a synapse which crashed shortly after startup because someone joined a room which was too big. required some precisely timed curl requests to fix that :ablobblewobble:

@bonifartius @iska @thatbrickster @m0xee oh let's just admit that Python is a stupid language. Not the Matrix fault here, per se.
@iska Synapse should've stayed PoC instead of becoming the flagship implementation. I have a similar issue with Electron but at least it's 'batteries included'. Perhaps taking RAD too far was the real mistake.
