The sheer amount of stuff I need to do, to take out the dashboard is really starting to take its toll on my motivation...
Especially given that it all needs to go back in as well...

This is the kind of shit, that makes it so expensive to repair basic things in cars.
And this one is still considered "easy to work on"...

In total, it took me over 8 hours to take out the climate control unit.

That'd be easily 400 in just labour wages were I working for a garage.
I understand that a professional mechanic may do it a bit faster but still the point stands... It took way too much time and effort to get through all the cables and stuff.

I wish manufacturers would make simple cars again without all kinds of electronic bullcrap...
Oh wait, Daddy EU doesn't allow that "because safety and environment"...

i literally only want the barebones toyota pickup thingy which costs $10000, but that will never be sold in the EU

@bonifartius @finlaydag33k That would be cool, I like those smaller trucks, high torque in a small package. Wish we could also get the newer Hilux trucks here in the US too.

Things are changing, depending on which State in the US, for small and foreign truck imports. Hopefully, Europe opens up options too in the near future.

@bonifartius @JSkier @finlaydag33k I had had a once over about recent regulations. What the actual fuck. These people are retarded.

@white_male @finlaydag33k @JSkier well, there is a crash black box and automatic speed control and some automatic calls on crashes.. not far until kill switches and telemetry once the hardware is in place.

@bonifartius For personal transport, I'd still argue that that truck is still way too fancy.

Basically a 1980's car is what you'd need...
Add some more modern stuff like powersteering and ABS, add a modern 1.4L engine and done.
No need for all kinds of wonky gimmicks.

@JSkier

@finlaydag33k @JSkier it just looks fancy ;) i'd really like to have something to transport stuff, hence a truck!

@bonifartius If it's your your job or common occurrence that you transport stuff? Makes very much sense.

Tho I see a lot of people that buy huge SUV's with lots of cargo space... because they might need it someday. :')

@JSkier

@finlaydag33k @JSkier most suv's have less cargo space than 90s station wagons, most modern trucks have snall beds compared to previous models. that's what i like about that toyota truck, it's no bullshit! :)

of course i don't need it every day, but it would make the occasional transport much more easy.

@bonifartius I'm gonna be really honest, if I need to carry a lot of stuff once every now and then, I wouldn't buy an entire truck for it.
I'd just rent a small trailer when I need to (or if you're inclined, purchase one).

That way, you kinda get best of both worlds really, albeit that it takes a bit more effort to attach the trailer and drive it.

@JSkier

@bonifartius Yea, I do like Kei Cars quite a bit and I've been saying we should have them in Europe too...
90% of people in Europe don't need more than what most Kei Cars can offer (maybe make them a wee bit safer during a crash tho).

Yet here we are, importing 5.7L Hemi's and driving 2300KG weighing V6 BMW's up and down to work...
