what mood the sound of cicadas invokes in japanese people?
i only know these sounds from anime, so it's colored by that.
@bonifartius we had billions of cicadas in summer nights when lived in Kazakhstan. I think they present everywhere, but they prefer warm climate and generally settle in Africa and South Asia. I doubt they're too many in Japan.

@iron_bug the ones here in germany aren't very noisy. cricket sounds are common in warm summers though.
