> The criteria for defining an "ultra-rich" should vary from one EU country to another, due to the economic, fiscal and social differences between member states. In Belgium, for example, we propose that anyone with 1.25 million euros in assets in addition to their main home and business assets should qualify as "ultra-rich".

just admit you want to finally complete project EUSSR.

now it's 1.25 million extra that's verboten, tomorrow it's a house and a car.

i'd rather burn all my belongings than pay up for your nightmare of future.

When Trump cuts the swap lines and the EUR goes to being worth 1/2 penny, people gonna be megabutthurt.

@bonifartius @brightside @jeffowski
And these tax margins usually don't get adjusted with Inflation.
So what's now a modest sum can be barely enough to live in a few years.

@STP @brightside @jeffowski my old landlords rented out for a really fair price and were nice people. their "extra" asset is very likely worth this amount now because of the housing market.

they would be forced to sell just because of this tax. the house would go to some conglomerate and then would be rented out for the maximum price.

then the next round of complains about the housing market starts, with dimwits calling for more interventionism.

rinse and repeat.

@bonifartius @brightside @jeffowski
And the conglomerate wouldn't have to pay this tax as it is no person, so they make more profits than private landlords.

"You'll own nothing" really seems to be the main goal of public policy today. House ownership, car ownership, everything is in jeopardy.

@STP this seems how it's planned, yeah.

the biggest insult are the "millionaires for humanity" pushing these plans. they could already donate all their money. no one is forcing them to keep it.

_those_ millionaires will just place their wealth into some foundation before the law kicks in. a foundation which they then are employed by or something likewise. while preventing everyone else from becoming even a bit "rich" in the first place.

@brightside @jeffowski

@bonifartius @brightside @jeffowski
Exactly.
The super wealthy have tons of ways to hide their wealth from the tax man - they're active globally and their wealth is usually in companies.
Almost no one owns a private jet as a person.
The ones taxed will be those "bound to the land".
Neofeudalism.

@STP
it's really maddening that people still fall for the idea that a bit more government will fix things.
