To Ursula von der Leyen, and friends, throwing the word "freedom of expression" around a bunch doesn't actually mean that "freedom of expression" is actually meaningfully protected.

A strange idea I saw from a European group is to get the government to run a social media site because they will supposedly handle human rights better than the private sector.

Governments, and yes, European governments (even if they pretend to care about human rights for marketing purposes), are actually some of the biggest violators of human rights around.

The best they can often muster is "at least we are better than x government" which is like Facebook saying "at least we are better than data broker x in protecting your privacy".

Currently searching for a software-related job. I recently graduated with a degree in computer science and have experience in industry from a software development internship. I also have a lot of outside experience working with Linux and *BSD and have developed many pet projects in most major programming languages. These projects include web servers, terminal applications, web apps, games, and simulations. I'm also comfortable with functional programming and can learn new concepts at a rapid pace. In addition to all this, I can understand German and also have basic knowledge of Russian.

If you or someone you know of is looking for a software developer and I meet their qualifications, please let me know.

Impromptu downtime tonight to (finally) pop the bad stick of RAM. Best time for this is 3 a.m. (both in terms of traffic and for other reasons), but in the interest of making sure I'm not passed out (I am exhausted), I'm planning to bring it down at about midnight. Midnight PST is 08:00 UTC.

@splitshockvirus@mstdn.starnix.network Nikon AI-S 800mm f/5.6 from the 1980s. Zero electronics. Manual focus only. Got a Nikon TC-301 2x teleconverter to go along with it, rendering equivalent focal length of 1600mm in full-frame 35mm (2400mm equivalent in DX 1.5x crop mode).

@m0urs@social.urspringer.de die url ist gut "zdf verbreitet russen propaganda" :)

x11 got vr support in 2 months. In wayland it took more than 2 years and gnome wayland still doesn't support it. That's despite x11 vr being worked by 1 person and wayland vr being worked on by 6+ people. If the focus was still on x11 instead of wayland then x11 would have got way further than wayland could ever go. Commits have been reverted in x11 even back in 2008 because "wayland is around the corner". Wayland has sabotaged the linux desktop for more than 15 years.

oh and also nvidia proposed a hdr protocol for x11 back in 2008, but it went nowhere because people were not interested. Most likely because of wayland. Thanks, wayland! we could have had hdr support back in 2008!

@m0urs@social.urspringer.de haha, das bild ist ja wie arsch auf eimer inzwischen xD
