@CapitalB @br00t4c do you voluntarily participate in "switzerland" or because you are thrown into jail if not? that's the question ;)

@pasture @VD15 because the problem for them is they are authoritarians and they wanted to be the ones in charge.

> we, the family of nations

i'm no nation, i'm an individual.

> He recommended that we replace our outworn habit of divisive feeling with a new habit of common action on a worldwide scale through the creation of some form of limited world-state that would be empowered to act in humanity’s collective interest in certain narrow fields of endeavor.

"having states didn't work, let us build a giant almighty one. that will fix the problem!"

> First, that a world government should be minimal and should be limited in its sphere of action.

if it's powerful enough to enforce any rules it will have limitless power by definition.

> Toynbee believed that the structure of a limited world state would likely be a federal one in which previously independent units would voluntarily come together in a global union.

this is a perversion of the word "voluntarily". nation states are not capable of doing things "voluntarily". they are inventions of the mind, not living beings.

> Finally, he believed that humanity needed to forge some unity of thought as to what constituted right and wrong. In other words, it was necessary to adopt a shared set of moral values that would serve to harmonize the disparate social and cultural heritages that had evolved independently of each other over the course of human history.

there is. it's called "natural law", but for the sake of the argument: it would be very entertaining to see how you'd align with the moral values of the maya state, which as well evolved in human history. "it's 4pm honey, time for the human sacrifice!"

the old "violently coerce people into compliance" solution never has worked. history is my proof.

the only "great refusal" i see is by supporters of etatism not wanting to carry the burden of responsibility themselves, calling for more authority to rescue them.

it's amusing when someone once read something that had a tough guy ring to it and then just repeats it. even if it's not making sense in context.

"nuked" by the mighty single user instance block button :)

Unfortunately, producing even only five-seven minute videos daily next to my full-time job was very difficult, and now unexpected things came up, so sorry for the abrupt end of "5 Minute Chemistry".

I enjoyed making it, and probably will continue at a later time, at a more comfortable pace.

Linux related programming will also return soon.

If you know someone who desperately needs some intro chemistry, share this:

After over 20 months and 2200 posts, I’ve decided to move to a new account @cnx. It was created during an extended period larkspur.one struggling with networking (in my first hasty migration attempt 50% of the accounts following me got sent to the void :blobfoxangrylaugh:). I’d also been meaning to go back to Pleroma after it added support for custom emoji reaction as Akkoma FE’d evolved to be a bit too busy for my eyes.

I would like to thank our admin @muxelplexer for his dedication on keeping this instance alive despite all the infrastructure issues, and for adding all the custom emoji I’ve ever requested :floofHeart: BTW the uptime service provided by loang.net is there to stay regardless if I’m active here, it costs virtually nothing to run compared to the Akkoma service you’ve provided me with for almost two years.

@lain @cell @sun i'll never stop lamenting that ccc is complete woke shit now, no speck of meritocracy left.

@nuts grade äpfel sind doch in der regel keine gezielten züchtungen. vermutlich braucht braeburn einfach anderes klima, nämlich das wo er eigentlich herkommt :)
