Please don't take this the wrong way, but the Fediverse seems like a great foundation on which to build a sustainable Internet economy.

Think about it: the Fediverse encourages self-hosting, so a hosting company specialised on Fedi software and hardware needs could be profitable. I know there's already at least one project like this.

What about ? Authors in the same area or with similar creative itches could set an instance up, share costs and monetise it with donations or sponsorships. Same could be done with for podcasts.

Microblogging and blogging platforms can be used to publicise and discuss such projects.

Every step of the supply chain can be independently funded and managed without external interference from BigTech companies.

This thread is a remarkable case study on how the FBI overcame a major tech company's resistance to running favors for the Feds by basically running an influence operation against key staffers—and paying to rent others—until they had the censorship crew eating out of their hands.

i'm not sure about this.

I've released version 2.0.0 of my RSS to ActivityPub converter! This now provides functionality I'd hacked in to rss.friend.camp - it requires OAuth 2.0 authorization for someone to create a new AP account for an RSS feed.

I used to run this service "in the open" but was overwhelmed by spammers. Now the admin of a Mastodon (or Pleroma or any federated server that is an OAuth 2 provider) can provide this converter as a service solely to members of their instance.
