Birdsite has reminded me that tomorrow is Prime Day, so I will continue on in my tradition of never buying anything from Amazon.

@straw @itzzenxx @enova I don't understand why people moved to the fediverse to get away from censorship and then mock twitter for censoring ideas, when the entire goal of federation is that content federates so it never truly disappears. I don't understand blocking cultured in general; you shut out ideas, whether you want to hear them or not. Free speech is what allows ideas to be shared, it does not mean tolerance, and it especially doesn't mean you have to force everyone else to tolerate something (i.e. on your instance).

It's the same thing with even stuff like Free software... how can you be so against "le freeze peach" but then tolerate and like things like Free software, which follows a very similar goal of ridding censorship and opening up ideas to criticism and allowing change. Free speech allows voices to be heard and arguments to be sent out. Ironically, free speech allows ideas like Communism and socialism etc (which are commonly argued by far-leftists) to flow freely and be heard.

Consider the whole Covid shit that we all had to deal with online for nearly two years. Even the idea of "misinformation" can be twofold, because it really boils down to, "is it cited on Wikipedia"? It prevents people from sharing genuine ideas. Funniest part is, conspiracy theorists and doubters have, even if unsourced, actually been somewhat _correct_ a few times in doubting studies regarding Covid; Covid is very real, but people have questioned the vaccines due to using very new technologies without very much real world usage, and how the media has portrayed Covid to be a lot scarier than it is, it's like beta testing but you risk nearly your life). Even something as simple as "this all just seems a bit sketchy" is considered misinformation. It's life to have doubts and question things, even when there are studies that verify things, people will always try to go beyond that.

I've noticed more and more that even the instances which commonly follow fediblock are starting to notice it's flaws. Instances like shitposter.club, while yes, having gamer words or saying faggot haha hehe hoho, are often used in a complete ironic sense anyway, and are some of the most fun instances I've met (and generally most active).

The internet around 2005-2015 was a LOT more tolerating of bullshit, and that's what made the Internet so fun. Now everyone feels a tendency to get rid of that bullshit (and yes, there are annoying people, but that's what individual muting or blocking is for), it spoils the internet and makes it seem "perfect", but that garbage is always what made the internet so much fun.

New #blog post: Stylometric fingerprinting redux.

Avoid de-anonymization through analysis of your writing style. Defend against machine- and human-driven stylometric identification.

This is an expanded version of a previous microblog about stylometric fingerprinting. Feedback welcome, esp. from anyone with a stylometry or linguistic close-reading background. Excerpt:

To paint with a broad brush, we can divide most stylometric fingerprinting into machine- and human-driven techniques.

Machine-driven techniques: These techniques involve analysis of reading level metrics, unusual words, machine-identifiable grammatical and spelling errors, and statistical analysis of writing style. A great amount of recent research studies statistical analysis of writing style; it’s a rapidly-evolving field. Human-driven techniques: There are some areas in which manual analysis still beats computers. Someone you know may recognize your writing style.

broken people

the more you think about it, the more you see all the broken souls.

> haha, sex strike! no more hook up culture!

if that isn't the utterance of a broken human, i don't know what is.

these women just degraded themselves to a replaceable sex object.

i have declared war on everything that holds me down and you can read all about it in my manifesto "gravitational forces and its consequences"
