"Broadcast news and several top newspapers ignored reporting on an investigation by the Department of Justice into former President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign for allegedly receiving $10 million from Egypt in the days before the 2016 election, a move which would have violated a federal law that bans U.S. candidates from taking foreign funds."

WHY do they think this is a problem that can be solved through a one-time purchase of a "new teaching method" --
I realize that there isn't the funding to do the things that might actually work:
* Decrease class size
* Attract and retain more experienced teachers
* Provide better administrative support. For example it can be hard to contact parents because databases are not kept up to date.
* Make schools more integral to communities with clubs, arts and sports.
It's worth hammering on: the economic and other benefits of climate action outweigh the "cost". Because the pro-fossil fuel people keep hammering on the "cost".
"The recent election saw both the Conservatives and Reform UK spreading misleading messages about the cost of net-zero. Typically, they chose to ignore the cost of business-as-usual, plus cited costs but not benefits or omitted the costs of failing to tackle climate change."

Fun fact: Eradicating all references to #ClimateChange in federal law and regulations, as #Project2025 proposes, will not alter the reality of climate change.

From the #CarbonPlan report:
"We urgently need a nationwide, multi-hazard, asset-level comparison of private climate risk companies. The data underlying such a comparison must be comprehensive, and the results and methods must be publicly released, full stop. If companies will not voluntarily submit to such comparisons — and based on our experience, we have good reason to think they will not — then it must be required by regulation."
When slicing work in to valuable pieces, I notice that many people get stuck on the notion of business value. "How will I know if it's valuable?"
My quick hack is to reverse the situation. "If you didn't do this thing, who would be upset and why?"
If the answer is that nobody would be upset then there's no value here. Do something else instead.
If someone would be upset then that person is your customer and the reason they're upset is the value.

Let’s fix this, Washington Post. “Does DEI training discriminate against white people?” The answer is no.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are valuable goals. They benefit everyone. That’s almost self-evident.
Attempts to rectify discrimination against disadvantaged groups is NEVER discrimination against the advantaged group.
If some judges find otherwise, they will be wrong.
Americans, check your voter registration status: several states have purged their voter rolls.

It's a terrible sign of the times that the page says, "An official website of the United States government. Here's how you know" with a pop-up.
A U.S. military member can only retire if the military approves it. The military can deny the request or issue stop loss orders to prevent members with certain skills from retiring.
Tim Walz was allowed to retire because he served his duty. The proper response is thank you.
Reboosting myself is not something I normally ever do, but I'm taking the liberty of retooting awareness of the #SilentSunday hashtag because the SilentSunday timeline is so lovely and because I've seen lots of new neighours in the Fediverse this past fortnight. Some are really old neighbours - Twitter people who came to Mastodon in the Great Migration of November 2022, then went back to Twitter, and now seem to be dropping by here again. I hope they stay. They are welcome and it's lovely here.
It’s a perfect autumn-like afternoon for a bike ride. I love the meadow of native plants along the Jackson Creek Trail.
@CelloMomOnCars Watched the whole thing with my wife. That’s the kind of person we want in government: smart, knows things, gets things done, and wants to help people.
