The thing will be called #DeFeduary. The idea is, within the next month, we're all going to convince our instance admins to defederate from mastodon.social. Failing that, we'll just do it as individuals

@socalledunitedstates But he's the developer, and has the right to run an instance if he wants to. Not to say that's not a good idea, but I would highly advise you to watch your reasoning for doing this … is it because you are rooting for decentralization, and you think that having an instance run by the developer is demoting that, or is it because you want to take over as the "flagship" instance.
