@deedend Not much has happened concerning the device unfortunately.

@carbonatedcaffeine @deedend exactly. Unusable and abandoned. Like may other products from them like the pinebook, pinebook pro, pinetab etc...

@dubstar_04 It is unfortunate, but software progress is dependent on community contributions, not Pine Store.

The original Pinetab had a single batch, due to Covid-19 it was decided that a new PT would be released due to parts pricing and missing parts we couldn't source.

The Pinetab though is still a feature complete device, along with the Pinebook and Pinebook Pro :)

Such a great potential, abandoned... All the "Linux mobile" built on top of libhybris are not an option for me, the only real Linux first hardware has been abandoned (and the Librem 5 is too expensive). Well, no alternatives in the mobile space for me. Sticking with Android for the foreseeable future 😢
@carbonatedcaffeine

@deedend there are many Android phones that run mainline Linux now like the OnePlus 6! I seriously recommend checking out postmarketos.org :)

@deedend @dubstar_04 @carbonatedcaffeine

What about the other devices that run near-mainline kernels with postmarketos?

I have heard that SDM845-Devices (Shift 6mq, Oneplus 6(T), Pocophone F1, … are quite usable by now.

And that's the deal with Pine64 - they let the community do the software - and in return we get cheap devices.

@robin @deedend @carbonatedcaffeine

"They let the community do the software - we get cheap devices"

This is the exact problem. We get cheap devices but at what cost?

I'm not comfortable sacrificing the wellbeing of community members for cheap devices that will inevitably sit in a cupboard unused.

@dubstar_04
What is the issue with Pinebook Pro? Everything works like a charm. What else do you need?
@carbonatedcaffeine @deedend

@Azt3c The complaint was about the Pinephone, not the Pinebook :)

@dubstar_04 @carbonatedcaffeine @deedend I don't know, I was pretty happy daily driving SailfishOS on mine (until the last fall that the motherboard didn't survive).
