It was brought to my attention the other day that our copy of the Joy of Cooking is like 40 years old, and I was thinking that maybe we should buy a new one, but on the other hand if Irma and Marion didn't know about something 40 years ago, is it really a thing at all?

I mean, 1982 wasn't THAT long ago, right?

Heck, I was out of college already.

Which raises (but does NOT beg!!!!) the question of wft I've been doing for forty years.

The kids are nice.

But they are whole separate people

I don't know if you're allowed to take credit for whole separate people, even if you were intimately involved in their conception.

I inherited a bunch of cooking books from my mom and grandma that I literally never use. Every time I want to follow a recipe, I look one up online (though that means ten pages of scrolling past animated ads for "singles in my area" and repetitive SEO garbage.

Aye, I am always reluctant to websearch for recipes for this very reason; the incentive is so great to waste so much of the visitor's time with ads and popups and scrolling that they just barely but not quite give up and go elsewhere.

So I always go to Joy and our ancient smudged index cards first, despite them being made of atoms and long out of date. :D

I've become adept at auto-skipping the BS down to the actual recipe, lol. It usually has a particular format (naming the ingredients in a one-per-line list) that stands out. 😜 And then I screenshot and save the recipes I really like!
