A jury has awarded a female executive Google executive $1.1 million and found the company guilty of gender discrimination.
They gave higher pay to less-experienced male cohorts & denied her promotions in retaliation for her complaints.
This happens all over big tech but people rarely file complaints because of fear of permanent harm to their careers. Kudos to Ulku Rowe for taking on Google and winning.

"Authoritarian societies are inherently corrupt, and corrupt societies are inherently unstable. Rule of thieves brings collapse, eventually, because they can't stop stealing."
@GreatDismal describes a perfectly plausible scenario for our future in 'Agency'.
Today I filed a formal complaint against #YouTube with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner for their illegal deployment of #adblock detection technologies.
Under Article 5(3) of 2002/58/EC YouTube are legally obligated to obtain consent before storing or accessing information already stored on an end user's terminal equipment unless it is strictly necessary for the provisions of the requested service.
In 2016 the EU Commission confirmed in writing that adblock detection requires consent.
Occasionally I stop to think about how much of the modern software development infrastructure and community is run at a massive loss: Stack Overflow, npm, Github Copilot (probably Github itself), VS Code.
Also how much of it is owned and run by Microsoft.
So much of it could disappear at a short notice if just one CEO changes his mind about his company’s marketing strategy.
Over time, these distinct rhythms seamlessly integrated with European music styles in the United States.
The European-influenced marching band music, particularly that of John Philip Sousa, had a significant influence on the development of ragtime. Ragtime composers, like Scott Joplin, often adapted the left-hand "oompah" rhythm of marching band bass lines and the right-hand syncopated melodies to the piano.

Sometimes people use the term "respect" to mean "treating someone like a person", and sometimes they use it to mean "treating someone like an authority"
And sometimes people who are used to being treated as an authority say shit like "If you do not respect me, then I won't respect you", by which they mean "treat me like an authority or I won't treat you like a person". And it sounds fair the way they say it, but it fucking isn't, and it is not ok.
If you're a UK scientist please consider adding your name to this letter to the secretary of state for science regarding her recent remarks on "kicking woke ideology out of science". Thanks!
The problem with these posts is that we’re already convinced and our friends who need convincing don’t see them. https://infosec.exchange/@malwaretech/111190107132652611
