संस्थान के वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिक डॉ. पीएस नेगी के मुताबिक ब्लैक कार्बन एरोसोल सूर्य की पराबैंगनी किरणों को अवशोषित करने के बाद उन्हें इंफ्रारेड किरणों के रूप में उत्सर्जित कर रहे हैं, जिससे कृत्रिम गर्मी पैदा हो रही है। इसकी वजह से हिमालयी क्षेत्रों में तमाम ग्लेशियरों की स्नो लाइन ऊपर की ओर खिसक रही है।
