भारत में चिकोरी उत्तर-पश्चिम में 6000 फीट की ऊंचाई और उत्तर प्रदेश, उत्तराखण्ड, पंजाब, कश्मीर में पाया जाता है। मुख्य रूप से कासनी की जड़ को औषधि के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है। कासनी का सेवन भूख की कमी, पेट में परेशानी, कब्ज, दिल की तेज धड़कन और कई अन्य स्थिति के इलाज के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है।
कासनी एक बहुपयोगी फसल है। इसका इस्तेमाल हरे चारे के अलावा औषधीय रूप में कैंसर जैसी बिमारी में किया जाता है और खाने में इसका इस्तेमाल कॉफ़ी के साथ किया जाता है। कॉफ़ी में इसकी जड़ों को भुनकर मिलाया जाता है जिससे काफी का स्वाद बदल जाता है। इसकी जड़ मूली के जैसा दिखाई देती है। कासनी के पौधे पर नीले रंग के फूल दिखाई देते हैं जिनसे इसका बीज तैयार होता है। इसके बीज छोटे, हल्के और और भूरे सफेद दिखाई देते हैं।
