Okay, after waiting a while to get some ticks from the new sensor on the gas meter, I now got lots of ticks... throughout the night when no one uses hot water.
This is a good indication to check on this heating. Maybe night-time reduction of the set temperature isn't working. But without monitoring, such problems are next to impossible to find and result in lots of wasted energy and hence CO2 emission.
