Dear US Americans, in Europe and especially in Germany we know a thing or two about fascism and how it takes over. Read about the fascists movements and their rise in Europe in the early 20th century. Beware: Do not take it literally. But observe the patterns!
If someone claims a vigilante, brutal unit will go door to door, be worried, solidarise in protest even across party lines.
They will try to divide and conquer and you can see that in the US already.
This goes out to conservatives in particular. There's a consensus that the lack of resistance from conservatives helped Hitler a lot. There's even the term "Steigbügelhalter" (stirrup holders) for the conservatives' leadership in 1933.
