'Critics have long contended that the NIH perpetuates reputational bias in its review process, which has led to funding disparities among grant recipients. According to a 2022 NIH analysis, the 10% of institutions that receive the most money from the agency get about 65% of its overall funding for research projects, and the bottom half receives less than 5%. These proportions have remained persistent for years.'

@cyrilpedia A former colleague (woman) left academia to join the NIH (grant review) hoping to help the crusade against the reining Good ‘Ole Boys Club. That was early 2000’s. Unfortunately, it was futile and not much has changed.

@lzvolk @cyrilpedia During my postdoc the two male postdocs were granted funding but I missed the payline by mere points. Main issue? Low scores on mentorship. I received a bio sketch from them that was for another grant and I was too overwhelmed to catch it.
