"Despite this lower baseline phosphosignature, CD14+ monocytes and CD1c+ DCs from both patients and healthy donors showed very similar activation in response to atherosclerotic plasma. However, when exposed to healthy plasma, only immune cells from patients were activated, suggesting they have an intrinsic inflammatory capacity in response to the same stimulus."
