Travelling by train in Europe should be silky smooth.

From pan-European corridors to interregional connections, we have helped build greener and sustainable ways into #Europe.

And we are up for more:

🚊 Today, we earmarked more than €52 million to support the purchase of 37 electric #trains for 13 interregional routes in Romania.

🚆 This month, we allocated €411 million to help build two sections of Spain’s Murcia-Almería high-speed railway.

@EU_Commission Portugal continues to be completely isolated from the European train network. Even the Madrid-Lisbon connection is dead. But the focus here is on building new airports.

@gpollara @EU_Commission Yes. The international train network was completely dismantled. 20 years ago, I could take a train to Madrid (and from there connect to the rest of Europe). Now it's flights or buses. But the only, exclusive, topic of international debate here for all the major parties is where the new Lisbon airport should go (which if it moves forward will increase the volume of tourism, effectively making the city unlivable, but that's another problem).
