Mechanisms of metastasis.
'Together, our data show that glucocorticoids released during chronic stress cause NET formation and establish a metastasis-promoting microenvironment. Therefore, NETs could be targets for preventing metastatic recurrence in cancer patients, many of whom will experience chronic stress due to their disease.'

Reminds me quite a bit of this paper on C5a, neutrophils, melanoma, and metastasis from 2022.

Some trivia: Neutrophils lay down lactoferrin to prevent themselves from retracing their steps. It binds up the actin cytoskeleton and prevents them from moving in that direction. Some damaged cells express lactoferrin on their surfaces to protect them from neutrophils, beginning a chain of events ending in remediation via efferocytosis rather than granulocyte.
Mikala Egeblad discussed some of this work at a workshop in Les Treilles last spring, organised by Tasuku Honjo & Antonio Coutinho. Here's a meeting report I wrote 👇 (the abstract is in French, but the rest of the text is in English).
