Last Fall I wrote a column for Nature Medicine that touched on the FDA's Animal Rule, used in the approval of anti-smallpox drugs due to the difficulty in designing ethically acceptable efficacy screens.

C'est désormais confirmé. Avec une analyse de plusieurs centaines de milliers de tweets, des chercheurs confirment que des antivax/complotistes répandent des discours climatosceptiques depuis plusieurs mois.

"I always think about climate justice as multitasking. We live in a time of multiple overlapping crises: we have a health emergency; we have a housing emergency; we have an inequality emergency; we have a racial injustice emergency; and we have a climate emergency, so we’re not going to get anywhere if we try to address them one at a time. We need responses that are truly intersectional. So how about as we decarbonise and create a less polluted world, we also build a much fairer society on multiple fronts?"

Public health in 21st century America.
"Mississippi’s woes are an acute example of a larger public health failure that is reprised nearly every time a major health threat grabs headlines. The problem, experts say, is that Congress starves state and local health agencies of cash for even basic needs in quiet times."

"We children of the Boomers went into the workplace with a double expectation – we wanted a proper occupation, and we wanted it to be a vocation. And once again, science seemed to fit the bill."

New posting! This asks whether #science #careers in #academia have evolved from a hobby, to a #vocation, to a profession...and maybe now into a job (and how that's probably a good thing).
Funnily, when I first conceived of this posting (quite a way back) I thought it would be a negative one about how people don't care enough any more, but that has almost completely turned around - I now think it's a good thing if people are stepping back. A good #work/life_balance isn't something to whine about - we should be insisting on it.
Anyhows, read the posting and see what you think... ;-)

The Bibliographical Society of America is seeking to build an endowment to support the Dorothy Porter Wesley Fellowship. The Fellowship of $3,000 is awarded each year to a Black individual for research on any topic. Thanks to a gift from Lisa Unger Baskin, the fund is halfway to its goal of $85,000, but it needs our help to make it the rest of the way. https://bibsocamer.org/support-bsa/porter-endowment-fund/
