'Segundo o relatório, o partido “tem trabalhado para envenenar o discurso nacional com retórica racista, anti-LGBTQ+, anti-imigração e anticigana". Estou convicta de que os portugueses - os que não estão envenenados – não precisariam de que uma organização estrangeira viesse clarificar que é de cariz racista a retórica do Chega.'

New TG mouse model for infection

"In this study, we report an inducible, transgenic hACE2 mouse line and showcase three examples for specifically expressing hACE2 in three different lung epithelial cells, including AT2 cells, club cells, and ciliated cells. Moreover, all these mice models develop severe pneumonia after SARS-CoV-2 infection."

#Introduction

I am a #NewPI in stem cell & developed tan biology working at the Babraham Institute (Cambridge).
Will tweet about everything related with #devbio and life as an academic scientist.

Very excited that a community is built!

The current structure of science funding would make Max Perutz's work impossible and Perutz unemployed:

"Max, inspired by Bernal's vision that the structure of large and complex molecules such as proteins could be solved using X-ray diffraction, embarked on scaling a mountain in biology—solving the structure of haemoglobin. This was to take him more than 20 years."

Another famous passage from Dale. The ripple and shimmer!

"If 1 gamma of acetylcholine, for example, dissolved in 0.1 cc of Ringer’s solution, is thus injected suddenly into the artery supplying the frog’s gastrocnemius, the surface of the muscle, covered with its glistening aponeurosis, shows immediately the ripple and shimmer of innumerable, unsynchronized contractions, propagated along the fibres and fascicles of the muscle"

In flies:

"Using a transcriptomic analysis of over 37,000 nuclei, we identified twelve distinct clusters of cells corresponding to temperature-sensing arista neurons, humidity-sensing sacculus neurons, and support cells relating to these neurons."

'Era una mujer sin nombre, de pie sobre una barricada en la Barcelona de 1936, una bandera rojinegra detrás. La imagen se imprimió en carteles y libros, se pintaron murales, y ella se convirtió en un icono de la Guerra Civil. Se desconocía su identidad. Y la del fotógrafo.'

#IDMastodon #Viralimmunology #Immunology #Cytokinebiology @CytokineSociety The delicate balance of the pro- & anti-inflammatory #cytokine responses that mediate effective clearance of viral titters is crucial for the effective resolution of #COVID19.
#Cytokinestorm results from disrupting this equilibrium, leading to uncontrolled immune cell responses.

'The Metropolitan police have admitted downloading the sim card from the phone of a radical French publisher who was arrested by counter-terrorism police at St Pancras station in April, his lawyer has claimed.

Officers returned the iPhone and laptop it had seized from Ernest Moret, 28, to his London lawyer on Tuesday after the Met announced late on Friday that no further action would be taken against him. He had been arrested on his way to the London book fair and held for almost 24 hours under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.'

One of the embryo model studies I wrote about the other day is officially published in Nature: nature.com/articles/s41586-023 And one that I didn't write about is also published there: nature.com/articles/s41586-023 So that's 5 embryo models, w/more to come...

The Company of Biologists is excited to announce the launch of its new mastodon instance @biologists.social, on which you can now find all our journals and community sites. We look forward to sharing more news about this new community in the coming days.

'The first popular English-language science books came to India in the mid-20th century. Even today, a majority of popular science books in Indian bookstores or online marketplaces are in English and written by foreign authors. The lack of Indian stories and perspectives is stark. While bestsellers in politics, cultural fiction, entertainment, and sports dominate the Indian market and have won prestigious international awards, compelling literature on Indian science and scientists is rare. It also likely accounts for the limited penetration of any popular book on science.'
