I know that zoom meetings are bad and often a waste of time.

BUT personally I find that Zoom one on ones, on a decent size monitor where the person's head is nearly life size, at the appropriate distance from my own face, with good speakers, is a pretty reasonable approximation of an IRL conversation in terms of building rapport and actually communicating.

Am I the only one?

@mimsical I also find that one-on-one with screen sharing for debugging, joint writing, etc., works better than sitting next to each other trying to view the same monitor or looking up at a distant screen.
