BREAKING: NY’s justice system

Appellate judges hand Trump a gift, cut bond down to $175 million, give him 10 extra days

Imagine a basketball team down by 40 points, and with 1:00 left in the game, refs give the losing team 5 more minutes — and lower the hoop from 10ft to 6ft

@tristansnell Granted, at least this is my understanding, this is only a temporary stay for a broader appeal by Trump's team AND the $175m has to be paid (and a bunch of other stuff done) in the next 10 days for it to move forward.

Interestingly enough - these were mostly Dems, women, and minority judges that sat on this ruling. It is an odd case of Trump (who has a history of sexual harassment and racism) being treated (in a way he would consider) fairly.

Now, are you going to ever see this sort of decision made for a guy who stole a loaf of bread? Probably not. I believe there is a level of $$ in which law changes behavior, Trump is obviously at that level. We will eventually see Musk charged and convicted of something and avoid repercussions in the same manner I'm sure.

I do wonder if @FinchHaven 's point is a valid one - was there some measure of that in the decision?

Here's the decision (at least I think it is):

@denniskoch @tristansnell @FinchHaven Let's not forget that the original fine was a calculated amount based on the individual counts of documented fraud. Not some arbitrary punitive figure.
