Great to see last year's winner Cornelia Jakobs back in the covers section.
I saw her in Rock City in 1995 with the Cardigans.

Those of you spods from the diaspora*, you'll be pleased to know that Bluemeat's legendary score chart is updated for tonight for the Mono.org jury.

There must be more than 4 of us, right?

FFS council caretaker has chopped down some lovely hollyhocks that were just starting to come up. We'd sown them in a crappy corner of the estate that was covered in weeds. We obtained some wood chips, someone else planted a little tree in the middle too. Looked much better last year as these street view pics show.

Have the caretakers got rid of the weeds round the bins? Of course they haven't.

Yeah, this is amazing sustainable design.

Cross section of a sustainable house.
Various pathways show flow of rainwater, stale and fresh air, domestic hot water.
A list on the right shows the function of each element.

MAX FORDHAM HOUSE

Rainwater drainage;

R1 Rainwater is attenuated in green roof and in planters

R2: Rainwater is absorbed into porous material on blue roof R3: Rainwater is drained to lower roof and patio at a controlled rate

R4: Rainwater is absorbed into porous attenuation volume beneath

patio before being drained away slowly.

Water supply

HVAC

U1: Cold, fresh air brought into building from beneath car undercroft U2: Heat is recovered from stale, moist exhaust air at MVHR unit

U3: Fresh, tempered air is supplied silently to inhabited rooms at high speed through 3D printed jet nozzles

U4: Warm moist air is extracted from kitchens and bathrooms US: Cold moist stale air is exhausted at high speed U6: Recirculating cooker hood extracts smells but not heat from cooking

Envelope:

PI: A well-insulated envelope completely wraps the building's

P3: Windows can open fully to ventilate heat away in warm weather

P4: Thermally massive building structure allows better use of Incidental heat gain in the winter and absorbs excess daytime heat
during warm weather Windows orientated and positioned to optimise daylight

Renewable energy

VI Upper roof is fully utilised for photovoltaic electricity generation. PVs generate almost all of house's energy

The Building Centre near Goodge Street, London has an exhibition area open to the public for free. There's always something interesting for anyone who's into or .

The current showcase finishes in a couple of days, a set of short films about in construction.
There's also an exhibit about architect Max Fordham, and his work. Great for any student of Design and Technology who wants some ideas.

Just watched "The Truman Show" with the kiddo, still my most cherished movie after 25 years. If you have never seen it, sort that out ASAP. So many details to pick up on each viewing.

Whilst there are a dozen ways to read the film, many moments are still key to my experiences growing up. My younger brother also loves the film for some of those reasons, and we both listen the soundtrack regularly, so will have to sneak some of that into his wedding next year.

What does mean to you?

My surreal moment of the weekend: running bingo with Sandra from Gogglebox.
Apparently I'm a "handsome young man."
And then explaining the concept of the show to a confused Dane.

A little for on Android.
Have been hooked on this story game the last few days. A must for the crew and after the compelling it was a no brainer that this was worth punting £4 on. It's quite beautiful.

You play a citizen of a country in the kid 20th Century, not unlike many Eastern European nations caught between superpowers and ancient regional emnities. Thrown into the position of President, your role is to negotiate with the various factions and lead the country.

What's astonishing is the level of detail the game has, the characters, events and cultures that draw on and from across the globe.

I don't know how scripted it is, but I was gutted when my first playthrough ended in tragedy, despite great successes.
Will try again, perhaps a little less trusting and idealistic before.

Somebody mentioned trying to be more like Instagram, and *bam* overnight they have completely destroyed the mobile app. The interface has become unusable, presenting me with tracks that I have to say "Not Interested" in rather than the helpful selections and excellent Daily Mixes that came up before. These cards have to be swiped through like the crappy social media apps. Font size has broken too.

Have dropped off of involvement the last year or so but we have a showcase for UCL's technical staff in the cloisters today.
Probably not quite your area but are you here @eLearningTechie ?

Ah, those iconic London buses, brainchild of... Boris Johnson. Impractical, uncomfortable, and wildly overcosted compared to existing Hybrid buses.
Sooner we can scrap these the better.

I know someone who runs a regular weekend. There's an even wider set of traditional local styles being enjoyed in every town, saved in the 20th century by historians and enthusiasts, revived for the 21st by those looking to rediscover and celebrate English culture. Northumberland Rapper is one of the most spectacular forms, shown here by the Sheffield Steel team and London based Thrales Rapper.
