Glammstein #Eurovision
There's definitely a theme of "war is bad, we stand by our sister nation" this year. #Croatia making that point explicitly about Putin. "Little man" #Eurovision
It's Keith Flint's younger, thinner brother.
One leg's freezing, and one's horrible sweaty.

For anyone being confused about why Australia is competing. This is the current map of Europe

Next is "#Hoogspanning," 50 Watts's collection of vintage Dutch safety posters, which exhibit that admirable Dutch frankness to a degree that borders on parody, but they're 100% real, and *amazing*:

They're ganked from Geheugenvannederland ("Memory of the Netherlands"):

While some are from the 1970s, others date to the 1920s and are likely PD. I've salted several away in my stock art folder for use in collages.

Those of you spods from the #mono diaspora*, you'll be pleased to know that Bluemeat's legendary #Eurovision score chart is updated for tonight for the Mono.org jury.
There must be more than 4 of us, right?
6/ With manpower still in short supply, it's possible that the Russian military may now be looking at lowering age limits as well.

1989 in a suburb of London, during the heyday of "rave" culture, someone wrote in tiny letters on the side of a scout hut (boyscout building, American readers) "rave is best". It was laughable to anyone actually in the scene. "Rave" was not a genre for starters and it being "best" was quaint. The medium and location of the message was hilarious and it became our in joke
Years later, stoned, we headed to kings x to recreate it near rave central for a laugh
You can now buy art prints of it

Border control between Furth im Wald and Cham. Damn I’m tired of this shit. #Schengen as a train passenger doesn’t work.
There’s this thing that so nags at me: the extent that the personal is political
I cross borders by train all the time. I encounter border controls *where they shouldn’t happen* very regularly.
But I’m pretty sure that no one in the EU institutions encounters this to this extent - because you’d not get this at Brussels Zaventem airport or your Mercedes isn’t going to be controlled on the motorway to Luxembourg.
Flicking through the semis I can see now why Netherlands didn't go through. Bad performance of a good song.
This was my favourite moment and song of last year's #Eurovision. And it wasn't even in the show and wasn't even the winning song.

UK's Sam Ryder singing a duet with Sweden's Cornelia Jakobs.
If you had all the time in the world, what would you do?
Unfortunately we're not going to live forever but rather than overwhelm us you might find that with the right perspective our mortality can actually motivate us.
In Interviews today Lammy advised Labour will not repeal the anti protest bill, and Streeting advised PR not likely to be in the Manifesto, Starmer has made that pretty clear.
Really no point in Labour.
Graham Smith, the (arrested) Chief Executive of #Republic:
“There is no longer a right to peaceful protest in the UK,...I have been told many times the monarch is there to defend our freedoms. Now our freedoms are under attack in his name.”
While Martha Spurrier from #Liberty, sees a 'concerted attack' on #civilliberties:
[The Police are] 'laying the groundwork for trying to shut down that dissent swiftly and effectively'.
Welcome to the reign of #CharlesIII - freedom for him but not you!
I haven't seen the #Eurovision2023 semi finals so don't know anything about these artists or whether they got through. But these are my picks, a combination of songs I would listen to, and others that deserve to do well, even if they're following a style or slightly formulaic.
I haven't included ones that were playing "by the numbers overwrought ballad" or "template silly comedy song."

Just another worried little citizen of this modern-day Pompeii. Techie at UCL, working on Process Automation with MS Power Platform. Scatterbrain, interested in education, languages, Space and lots of disparate things. sorry.
Keeping my space toots at @astrodad as an experiment in self-moderation :)
